The 80 selected words come from the 15 surahs of this syllabus, and their meanings are learnt for the paper. In each paper, 2 MCQs (2 marks) in Section A and the meanings of 5 words (5 marks, 1 mark each) in Section B (b) come from this list, so 7 of the 50 marks. The tables that follow group the words by surah, so learn each word with its surah.

How the words are asked
Section A: 2 of the 10 MCQs are on these words (the other 8 are on the introduction and occasion of revelation). Section B (b): the meanings of 5 words, 1 mark each. The model paper asked the MCQs «الذَّنْبُ» and «هُزُوًا», and in Section B (b) the words «اَلْاَعْرَافُ»، «يُسِرُّوْنَ»، «مُنِيْبٌ»، «رٰعُوْنَ» and «مُشْفِقُوْنَ».

Write the board's meaning
بورڈ کا معنی لکھیں
Write the meaning the board prints, which is the Urdu column in the tables. Where a meaning has a slash, such as «وہ جھگڑا / بحث کرتے ہیں», write the first part and learn the others too. Do not write a meaning from your own guess: it must fit the word's place in the ayah.
وہی معنی لکھیں جو بورڈ نے دیا ہے، یعنی جداول کا اردو معنی۔ جہاں / کے ساتھ ایک سے زیادہ معنی ہوں، جیسے «وہ جھگڑا / بحث کرتے ہیں»، وہاں پہلا معنی لکھیں اور باقی معنی بھی یاد رکھیں۔ اپنی طرف سے معنی نہ لکھیں، بلکہ وہ معنی لکھیں جو آیت میں اس لفظ کی جگہ کے مطابق ہو۔
Group the words by pattern
الفاظ کو قاعدے کے مطابق یاد کریں
Verbs ending «ـنَا» mean we: «بَعَثْنَا» (We sent), «اٰتَيْنَا» (We gave), «قُلْنَا» (We said), «لَبِثْنَا» (we remained).
Verbs ending «ـتُ» mean I: «تَوَكَّلْتُ» (I have put my trust), «اُمِرْتُ» (I have been commanded), «نُهِيْتُ» (I have been forbidden).
Present verbs ending «ـوْنَ» mean they when they begin with «يَـ», and you all when they begin with «تَـ»: «يُسِرُّوْنَ» (they conceal), «يَحْزَنُوْنَ» (they grieve), «تَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ» (you seek to hasten), «تَكْسِبُوْنَ» (you earn).
A present verb starting with «يَـ» means he or they: «يَبْسُطُ» (He extends), «يَدْعُوْ» (he calls), «يَحْكُمُ» (He judges), «يَجْتَبِيْ» (He chooses).
«لَا» before a verb means do not: «لَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا» (do not rebuke them), «لَا تَقْنَطُوْا» (do not despair). «لَيْسَ» (is not) is a different word.
Some words repeat with the same meaning: «اَلذَّنْبِ» and «اَلْاِثْمَ» both mean sin (گناہ), and «بَعَثْنَا» and «اَرْسَلْنَا» both mean We sent (ہم نے بھیجا). Learn one meaning for each pair.
Some entries are two words that go together and mean one thing: «صُمٌّ وَّ بُكْمٌ» (deaf and dumb), «لَهْوًا وَّ لَعِبًا» (amusement and play), «طَوْعًا وَّكَرْهًا» (willingly and unwillingly). Learn both words with the meaning.
Look-alike words: «تَكَادُ» (almost) and «تَكْسِبُوْنَ» (you earn) both start with «تَـ», but only the second means you. «يَحْزَنُوْنَ» (they grieve) and «يَحْكُمُ» (He judges) both start with «يَـ», but their meanings are different.
«ـنَا» پر ختم ہونے والا فعل «ہم» کے لیے ہوتا ہے: «بَعَثْنَا» (ہم نے بھیجا)، «اٰتَيْنَا» (ہم نے دیا)، «قُلْنَا» (ہم نے کہا)، «لَبِثْنَا» (ہم ٹھہرے)۔
«ـتُ» پر ختم ہونے والا فعل «میں» کے لیے ہوتا ہے: «تَوَكَّلْتُ» (میں نے بھروسہ کیا)، «اُمِرْتُ» (مجھے حکم دیا گیا)، «نُهِيْتُ» (مجھے منع کیا گیا)۔
حال کا فعل جو «ـوْنَ» پر ختم ہو اور «يَـ» سے شروع ہو تو اس میں «وہ لوگ» مراد ہوتے ہیں، اور «تَـ» سے شروع ہو تو «تم سب»: «يُسِرُّوْنَ» (وہ چھپاتے ہیں)، «يَحْزَنُوْنَ» (وہ غمگین ہوتے ہیں)، «تَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ» (تم جلدی کرتے ہو)، «تَكْسِبُوْنَ» (تم کماتے ہو)۔

«لَا» کے ساتھ فعل آئے تو اس کا مطلب ہے «نہ» یا «مت»: «لَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا» (ان دونوں کو مت جھڑکو)، «لَا تَقْنَطُوْا» (تم مایوس نہ ہو)۔ «لَيْسَ» (نہیں ہے) ایک الگ لفظ ہے۔
کچھ الفاظ فہرست میں دو بار آتے ہیں مگر معنی ایک ہی ہے: «اَلذَّنْبِ» اور «اَلْاِثْمَ» دونوں کا معنی گناہ ہے، اور «بَعَثْنَا» اور «اَرْسَلْنَا» دونوں کا معنی ہم نے بھیجا ہے۔ ہر جوڑے کا معنی ایک بار یاد کریں۔

In Section B (b), number the five meanings and write one meaning for each word. Each answer is 1 mark, so write the board's meaning only.

The surah takes its name from «اَلْاَعْرَافِ» (the Heights). The word «اَلْاِثْمَ» means sin, the same as «اَلذَّنْبِ» in Surah Ghafir. «لَهْوًا وَّ لَعِبًا» is one pair: amusement and play.
